Statement:

My work is informed by the remnants affiliated with unwanted detritus. Particular interest lies in the disposability of contemporary mass produce pertaining to the printed image and the remains of technological advances. Sporadic combinations of information often with crude materials, strives for a sense of displacement or aloofness.

Description

Print title: Botched two block lino cut  €385

Drawing with brass frame title: Remnant of a Good Day  found object, pencil on paper €100

Hot air House title: The Lateset Selection of Contemporary Housing  hand sewn balloon, wire, button, cardboard €100

Fiona Kelly’s work is influenced by the surreal aspects of contemporary life and the vulnerability of the rural, in relation to the boon of the urban.
In dealing with the vagaries of urbanization and the domestic, she adopts common place objects to address social concerns. By creating subjective
narratives and humorous allegories, she molds a functionality for her individualized characters. Kelly works through a myriad of techniques and
materials in reaction to her found environment.

Mosaics by Kirsten Murray

Kirsten Murray is a Cork based artist currently working in fine art mosaic. She has studied at CCAD, UCC and holds a Cities and Guilds in Traditional Signwriting.

The mosaics are made from a variety of found and donated recycled materials including vitreous glass, leftover household tiles, broken ceramics, decorative gems, stained glass and mirror. No functional items were sacrificed in the making of these mosaics.

The images formed come purely from imagination and unconscious doodlings. They are brazen scribbles in subject and style which  require a glossy ,vivid and rudimentary rendering.

Mosaic is ancient, versatile and durable and light dances upon it like no other visual form. The tiles change with every different  play of light and this quality is even more striking when certain features are placed in low relief.

Kirsten Murrays mosaics are currently on show in Cork Coffee Roasters on Bridge Street.

’ A series of images composed of featureless head and shoulders. The scale of the images demand inquiry from the viewer. It is also a scale which communicates intimately. The work is a result of dual process of layering and stripping allowing absence to emerge as presence.
